You’ve booked your adventure and now you are ready to plan for a fantastic day or multi day trip with us. Full trip details and recommended gear list will be sent when you make your booking but as a general guide, you should plan to bring the following.

Please note: The weather in New Zealand can be changeable even at the height of summer – please come prepared for four seasons (clothing for hot and cold weather).

If Walking the Queen Charlotte Track

Personal gear list recommended for walking:

  • Parka or raincoat
  • Warm jacket
  • Warm/thermal top (polypropylene)
  • T-shirt
  • Warm pants
  • Shorts
  • Woollen/polypropylene socks
  • Strong shoes or lightweight boots
  • Sun hat
  • Warm/ Insulated hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Day pack (available to hire)
  • Drink bottle (at least 1 litre)
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Blister patches/moleskin/lambs’ wool

If overnighting, you will also need:

  • Change of clothes to wear at the lodge(s) – smart casual is fine.
  • Toiletries
  • Nightwear
  • Any required medication
  • Additional/spare supplies relating to specific dietary needs

Optional:

  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Swimsuit & towel & sandals for beach wear
  • A walking stick/pole

Please note there is a limit of 1 overnight bag/suitcase per person weighing no more than 15kg. Secure storage for excess luggage is available at our office for no extra cost.

If Kayaking in the Marlborough Sounds

Day Trip

Equipment We Supply:

  • Kayaking & safety equipment
  • Paddling jacket
  • PFD (Personal Flotation Device) with whistle
  • Spray deck
  • Kayak!

We recommend you bring the following: 

  • A change of clothing – shorts and tee shirt are fine for paddling during summer but always have a change of warm clothing i.e. shirts, long johns, polypropylene, socks.
  • Raincoat for on shore
  • Swimsuit
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Towel
  • Sandals, running shoes or other soft sole shoes for paddling. Please – no jandals (thongs).
  • Toiletries and personal medical requirements
  • Book
  • Camera

Multi Day Trip 

  • Two sets of warm clothing for off-water
  • Two sets of clothing for paddling
  • Raincoat for on shore
  • Swimsuit
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Water Bottle
  • Hat
  • Towel
  • Sandals, running shoes, jandals or other soft sole shoes for paddling.
  • Toiletries and personal medical requirements
  • Book, cards or games
  • Camera
  • Headlamp or torch
  • Sleeping bag
  • Tent
  • Sleeping mat
  • Pillowcase (to stuff with soft items for sleeping)
  • Cooker, lighter and fuel or gas – enough for the amount of days paddling and one between three persons is normally adequate
  • Plate, knife, fork, spoon
  • Cooking utensils – one set between three persons normally adequate

Tents, cookers and sleeping mats are available for hire from our office.

If Biking the Queen Charlotte Track
